Notorius B.I.G. Tribute Mix Tape

Notorious hits theatres in France June 24th. In respect to the Brooklyn rapper, and the George Tillman Jr. directed film VR the Legend & Uncle T have released their newest tape, a Notorious B.I.G. tribute mix. The celebratory mixtape blends Biggie classics with the songs they were originally sampled from, and audio clips from the movie. VR the Legend & Uncle T have combined all the tracks of this mix on one long track, similar to the golden days of hip hop mixtapes. You can download the mixtape here via Slam X Hype.

Legend Of Zelda Mixtape

Team Teamwork just dropped 10 remixes using music from Zelda! The image below has nothing to do with the project but the album artwork was so wack I decided to post this instead. The remix of Aesop Rock’s No Jumper Cables using the music from Goron Village is perfect.

01 - Clipse - Virginia (Lost Woods)
02 - Dr. Dre + Snoop Dogg - Still D.R.E. (Getting Treasure)
03 - Jay-Z - No Hook (Meeting the Owl)
04 - Pimp C, Lil Keke + P.O.P. - Knockin’ Doorz Down (Hyrule Field)

"The American Dream, Really ?" Remixed as our current State Of The Union by: Matthew D. Hanna

This snapshot was taken on Cumberland St. in the downtown historic district of Charleston, SC at 9:43 am on 6.11.2009 by Matthew Dukes Hanna of Charleston, SC. This was not a planned photo, but I felt as though I could not pass it up as strolled by. From time to time I run across homeless individuals in the area but everything about this photo reached out and grabbed me immediately. It reminded me and instantly made me think and more so visually see the feelings of so many American Individuals and the USA as a whole as we coax through this financial disaster bestowed upon us leaving so many in shambles with heads down not knowing where to go next or what to do. Also the physical traits stood out to me from the cowboy boots he was wearing, the disheveled business suit with a crispy white shirt unbuttoned, the pair of boots he carried around his shoulders, the Jesus Piece around his neck, the cigarette burning and last but not least the amazing guitar case marked with USA whilst he just sits head down wondering what happened ! Here I present the "The American Dream, Really ?" Remixed as our current State Of The Union!

Takashi Murakami || Pharrell Williams || Jacob and Co. Sculpture

I did not plan on another post today but I could not pass this up:

Here are some pictures of the Takashi Murakami x Pharrell Williams x Jacob sculpture, which was made for the Art Basel fair this year. Murakami created a sculpture and Jacob the jeweler re-created some of Pharrell’s products of choice in premium metals and diamonds. The blinged out objects, including a Pepsi can, Ice Cream Sneakers, Cupcake, Doritos and a condom, have been placed in the mouth of the Takashi Murakami sculpture.

The sculpture is being exhibited from today at the booth of Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin at Art Basel.

BANKSY - "Let Them Eat Crack"

This is an older story but I love the bomb!

Urban art legend Banksy – at least we think it’s him – offers up his take on the recent finance fiasco. Trust him to say it how it is. Banksy goes to great lengths to ensure he is never caught on camera and few people know what he really looks like, so the photographer, Sabeth, has done well to catch him in the act.

Banksy has been in New York recently promoting his new animatronic pet store exhibition, featuring living Chicken McNuggets, swimming fish-sticks, and nuzzling hot dogs. Giant murals tying in with the show are popping up all over the Big Apple. Here’s a little morsel of his new works:

Skyzoo Mixtape - The Power Of Words

Born Gregory Skyler Taylor in 1982 in Crown Heights, he grew up in Bedford-Stuyvesant. He was nicknamed Skyzoo by his parents after the Skyy disco song (his middle name is Skyler). He began rapping at the age of nine and went on to work with producers Jay Dee and 9th Wonder, releasing several mixtapes in the hope of securing a record deal. He lost to Jin on BET's 106 & Park freestyle contest, but went on to have tracks used as both the theme to ESPN's Whiplash TV and the soundtrack to a Guinness advert, and set up his own Custom Made Entertainment company. He has also had a long association with North Carolina rap crew the Justus League, whom he was introduced to via his friend Chaundon, and who he describes as his "second family". Jay Dee's death in 2006 prompted Skyzoo to pay tribute with the song "Sky's Last Donut". He worked with 9th Wonder on his debut album, Present Cloud 9: The 3 Day High, which reputedly took only three days to records. He also contributed to three tracks on the Hall of Justus album Soldiers of Fortune.

He released the critically-acclaimed Corner Store Classic mixtape in 2007, and released a remixed version, including some new material, as a digital download album in 2008. Corner Store Classic was rated 'XL' (4/5) by XXL Magazine. In 2007, he stated that he had a second album ready, called The Salvation, but was waiting for a major record deal before releasing it.

He cites as influences hip hop artists such as Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, N.W.A., Big Daddy Kane, and Kid 'n Play, as well as artists such as Sade, Nirvana and John Coltrane, and cites Coltrane's A Love Supreme as his favorite album. He credits J Dilla as his biggest inspiration and favorite producer. He has been critical of the direction that Hip Hop has taken, stating "People are taking the 'whetever we gotta do' method, resulting in gimmick records. I'm about making money but it has to be with dope records". Click the title of the blog entry to download!
